I Killed my WebSurfer!

New MessageI Killed my WebSurfer! (modified 0 times) YoCheeseHead
Took out disk on chip

Bios reported disk failure

Put chip back in (maybe backwards?)

Bios reported flash type not recognized

Took chip back out

Now I can't get video out of the thing. Nada from TV-out or CRT.

Managed to break it in 6 hours. Damn.

Anyone want to buy a $20 doorstop?

Count me in for some casualties. I too killed by DiskOnChip. My problem was that the ####3r poped open when I was pulling it out of the socket. Of course I didn't know which way it goes back in. 50% chance is a bitch. Anyhoo, I don't think I need the DoC that bad, plus I have two more websurfers to play with )

it goes in, so that if the front of the websurfer (with the switch) was vertical in the air, you can read it say diskonchip.

YoCheeseHead:
I am interested in buying it for $20 if you were serious. Can you email me at erickotz@my-deja.com and tell me exactly, if anything, the websurfer does and stuff like that. Thanks

pull it out and solder on a hard disk connector to the MOBO ... it will boot
without a DoC

I think I did more than fry teh DOC. I couldn't get any video output (VGA or composite). Not even a chance of a bios error message (drive failure or whatnot). AFAIK, this is something that is associated with parts of the WSP other than the DOC. I thought the DOC was for OS etc. Pls bear with me if I am wrong--I am just getting into this stuff (and learning the hard way ;) ).

I am not a complete idiot, but mostly...

1. When I first got my WebSurfer it was wacky, and would start sometimes but not others. I installed a PCI SCSI controller, following which I got no video output whatsoever no matter what. I shorted the CMOS clear jumpers (right next to the battery) and I haven't had problems since.

2. I cannot figure out how to get VGA output... I might be missing something, but so far I get nothing outta the 15-pin connector. My monitor wakes from sleep mode, so it's getting a signal, but no actual output.
