WebSurfer Basics
Questions and one answer on the WS

New MessageWebSurfer Basics (modified 0 times) Karl
Got my WS and plugged in a VGA monitor. Came up and was just as happy on the monitor as it would be on a TV. There is no mention in the instructions of how to hook it to a monitor but the spec sheet on page 16 of the Hardware guide says it has a VGA output.

It also has 2 usb ports. Has anyone tried them? Could they be used for a HD/floppy?

Where are the 12 and 5 volt outputs for a HD on the MB? I haven't had a chance to get a multimeter on it and don't want to reinvent the wheel.

It looks like someone has win98 running on it. Is there somewhere I can go for the details?

Thanks to everyone in advance.

OK, I'll just tap into the power supply. No problem. I had an old HD with DOS 6.22 on it that booted on an old machine. Put in an old floppy/hd controller card, got IO conflicts. Disabled them in the BIOS. Put in the values for the hard drive and got a boot failure. Tried it as auto and got a boot failure. The drive works in another machine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Don't set the hard drive size in the BIOS. The ISA card has it's own BIOS (at least it should). I had to pop out the DiskOnChip to get mine to boot. Also make sure your boot partition is set active.

Between where the IDE header is and the silver Cyrix chip is, there's a 5v connector. But like the IDE, the pins are missing. There's a 12v port behind the S-video ment for another 3-pin fan.

OK, I got DOS 6.22 and Win 3.1 up and running. No mouse, but who cares. Popped the flash, turned off the on-board controler, and there I am. Now to get a larger HD and a junk CD and start loading systems. Wish I had a neato screen like the IO, but that will come.
