How to get power to HD
How to get power to HD

New MessageHow to get power to HD (modified 0 times) netronin
Codeman used a 5v source from his IDE controller to power the hard drive. Is this the
only known method so far?

Tap it, man! Im sure the 45W supply aint maxed out yet.

Couldn't you just get a splitter for power connector and go from there?

Ok greghol, for those of us that are "solder" challenged, a little help
would be appreciated. Maybe even some pics of the fine job you did on
yours.

Thanks,

netronin

The standard pc ps splitter I beleive will not work on this it's wired differently.
If you are somewhat familar with computer power supplies you may be able to home brew your own.

It's not recomended using a computer on a projection tv because things that don't move on the screen(like the start button on windows) will get burned into the screen. you probable know this but just thought i would warn you

I'll raise your pac-rattedness by 100. How about a Procom Technologies Hard Card. You get a bracket to mount your drive on, it supplies its own power (from the bus) and it can support pretty much what the bios will support. I have a 485mb drive on mine at the moment.

Wouldnt the easiest way to get power to the harddrive be to splice the fan power cable to a two way standard power, then you could do the cd rom and h/d thing

The easist way to get power to the HD/CD is too go get that trashed computer case ya got lying in the corner.....Rip it open, take your cutters and cut off a HD pigtail from the power supply inside...and the just match the colors with those on the power supply connector inside the Websurfer.....What ya know it works,..

when you use the pigtail from the old P/S, is there a difference between the 2 black wires? I don't have a voltmeter handy...

New MessageRE:How to get power to HD (modified 0 times) ioioioinfoioioio.
No difference in the black wires, They all get soldered together into one big cluster inside the power supply on the PCB.....Take a old one apart you will see... uhh err be sure it's been uplugged for awhile......

Tony:

"...and the just match the colors with those on the power supply connector inside the Websurfer."

So you end up with a white connector one one end and some bare wires on the other end. What do you do with the bare wires? Where do you connect them?

New MessageRE:How to get power to HD (modified 0 times) Tony
Connect the wires to the power supply connector, either coming off power supply itself, or the connector on the Mobo

"What do you do with the bare wires?"

hang them off your TV, move them around till you get a good signal.
