On-board NIC... 100BaseT FD and counting!!
It's up and running!

Well... Drum roll please....

I finally figured it out. All the info for the on-board NIC configuration is resolved and posted for everyones pleasure.

Check out gr8_brit

I've posted parts lists, some (rough!) pictures, the software you need, and the steps to make it all happen.

It's been challenging (as well as rewarding)

Sorry to you Linux guys, but at present it needs DOS to setup the Serial EEprom, but after that ... you get the drift.

I might consider making kits available to all if the numbers look right. I don't think I'm the only one who wanted this working? Or am I ?

Best of British!

Hi folks! Thanks gr8_bit for the excellent information on addinf the Ethernet port! I'm interestedin doing this mod to my Websurfer, but need the parts. Most places that supply the 82558 chip are quoting $44 ($100 minimum order). I've been talking to Jack at badflash.com about getting a supply of these parts. He says that if there is enough interest, he'd be glad to make up some kits for us. He can get the 82558 significantly cheaper (approx half the price quoted above) but in quantities of 25. SOOO if there's enough interest in doing this, he said that he would make up kits. Is there enough interest? I know I am!

actually there's an easier way.. i had to replace mine and got it for $24 for 1.. no min quantity.. www.mypioneer.com
tis a company called pioneer standard.. they treated me good, and the price was obviously better than $44.. and with no min quantity.. i do think they overdue it a bit with the packing tho ;) a big ole box, vacuum sealing, etc.. just for 1 chip ;)
