I have a couple of quick things I'd like to check... No more than five minutes work...

checkout www.arium.com It's what plugs into that debug header on the X-Box planar. Long story short: there's something funky about the hardware, the CPU can't be executing the Flash code unchanged, I suspect some type of interposition between the CPU and Flash. It may be address line shuffling, it may be a second agent grabbing some ROM accesses before they get to the flash part. The arium would allow me to see what exactly the CPU is executing as opposed to what's in the flash.
Don't bother Kevin and the gang at American Arium looking to buy one though unless you've got $12,000 to $20,000 to splurge on it. If the things worked on more than two generations of CPU before having to spend a couple of grand upgrading it.

Hi Roastbeef -

Would you mind making a long story longer?? :)

How have you come to your conclusion that the CPU can't be executing the Flash code directly?

Just curious...

Paul,
What's your background? If I told you to grab a Meritec TSOP40 socket and an EMP-30 from Needhams, would that make any sense to you?

Absolutely! I've got an old EMP ISA board lying around, but it may be too old (might not have enough address lines). I'll have to dig it up/see what I have.

Would you mind emailing me directly? I've got a couple of questions, but it may not be best to ask them here. My email is oz_paulb AT hotmail.com.

Thanks,

- Paul

Roastbeef and Paul-- we should chat:

ICQ: 10996796
AIM: "SILICONLCE" (yes, it's an 'L', I put it lowercase so it looks like an 'I' because someone already took the one with ice in it)
