Upgrade Pics - By hardware1

Tools I recommend:
Smaller size phillips head screwdriver.
Needle nose pliers, or use the corner of regular pliers.
Epoxy removal:
Pointed scribe ($3 hardware store) or very sharp point tweezers,
  or good dental pick.
Small jewelers screwdriver set.
Flat razorblade.

What did I learn?
Take your time, it took about 15 minutes (not incl picture taking time).
Plan on 30 minutes so you can be real careful.
Try different tools a little to see what works best.
DO NOT PRY AGAINST SOCKET OR BOARDS!
Be VERY careful around the top of pins!
Wait till all epoxy is gone before attempting to remove chip.
Remove chip by very gently prying up each side a little at a time.
No heat was needed. TAKE YOUR TIME!

The clear packaging tape, QC sticker
underneath new tape. This box was opened.
Mfg Date: Apr 6, 2000
BIOS Goo, IDE pins OK.
The Goo was not put on through the
cover. Someone had to disassemble
it completely.
The infamous "void" sticker.
Where the plastic case snaps together,
I just pushed in on the case and they snapped
apart. Sticker from mfg of plastic case.
Did I really void my warranty?
The label is "not removed" !
The epoxy goo in all it's glory.
IDE pins all OK.

NOTE:
You may not need to remove the BIOS chip,
people are working on a QNX flash program.

Chipped out first chunk, no problem.
This corner was filled up, but came out easy.
Note that I am using a small jewelers screwdriver,
the flat edge helped in some situations.
The other side was easy too.
Using the flat blade to scrape off top
epoxy. makes the other operations easier.
Close up showing how it chips right out.
Close up of tweezers chipping out a pin.
Tweezers used to chip out bulk sections.
Tweezers cleaning out pin area.
All done! Note that I did not bother with
epoxy stuck to board! No reason to mess with it.
I did damage two pins on the top part slightly
but it works fine. Need to be more careful, take
your time!
